Charity Time

Okay, I feel morally obliged to give a push for the “Collegiate Click Drive”…
While I disagree with Oxfam’s politics, I think their click-drive program is well intended.
All you need to do is go to: http://www.povertyfighters.com/ and click twice a day,
and 50 cents are given to charity. (Double bonus if you sign up as part of Brandeis’ contribution).

Chiraq=Merde

Chiraq’s quotes speak for themselves:

it is not really responsible behavior. It is not well brought up behavior.”

But here’s the kicker I like. His last little snit — again I quote, “they missed a good opportunity to keep quiet.”

Further proof that the UN is ineffective

UN gave Iraq 48 hours warning before U2 spy plane flights began

(THE JERUSALEM POST)

The UN warned Iraq 48 hours before American U2 spy planes took off for their flights over Iraqi territory in support of UN weapons inspectors.

What the heck are we warning them for? The U2 is a spy plane; it’s suppost to operate SECRETLY….what good is it if you pre-announce a surveillance flight?!?!

A spokesman for the UN weapons inspections team in Iraq said that the U2 flights started yesterday, but according to an Iraqi request, the UN gave Iraqi authorities two days advance notice before the spy planes took off, reports Israel Radio.

Today’s Rush Quotes

“If the world were left to people like Jimmy Carter, the Soviet Union would dominate the globe today.”

“Here are the protesters, supposedly standing up for the oppressed, but they’re not. They’re standing with the guy who oppresses the oppressed. They’re standing with the guy who kills the oppressed.”

“Do you know that Bill Clinton launched more cruise missiles into Iraq in 1998 than the total cruise missiles that were used in the Gulf War?”

“I’m always saying that good comedy and satire only work if there’s an element of truth in it, and these affirmative action bake sales nail that.”

“What is the defense budget, if it’s not an ‘investment in peace’? We spend money on defense to deter attacks against this country and to protect our freedom. Peace is the result of victory.”

MOST AMERICANS AGAINST P.A. STATE

From Arutz-7 and WND:

A new poll indicates that 71% of Americans oppose the creation of a
Palestinian state. The survey of 1,000 Americans, conducted by John
McLaughlin and Associates for the Zionist Organization of American, also
shows that U.S. residents are widely opposed to giving aid to the
Palestinian Authority.

The ZOA reports that the poll respondents were Protestants (53%), Catholic
(28%), and Jews (2%), as well as white (76%), black (11%), and Hispanic (10%).

The results show that 71% of Americans believe that the Palestinian Arabs
“should not be given a state” because the Palestinians had not fulfilled
President Bush’s conditions for creating a state, “such as fighting
terrorism, stopping the promotion of hatred in its media, ending the
encouragement of murder in its schools, becoming a democracy, and
respecting human rights.”

77% said that “the U.S. should stop giving the
Palestinian Arabs $150 million” in aid each year, and 61% said they believe
that “the goal of Yasser Arafat’s Palestinian Authority is the eventual
destruction of Israel.”

Cabin Fever

“How many of these protesters on Saturday were protesting Saddam Hussein or demanding he destroy his weapons of mass destruction? Zip, zero, nada. Who are these protesters and just what are they protesting? Have they protested the guy that’s murdering and killing his own citizens?”

“How much pressure has the United Nations put on Saddam to disarm? How much pressure did the protesters put on Saddam Hussein to disarm? None.”

“Every inch of these protests over the weekend was aimed at America.”

“When we launched all those cruise missiles at Iraq, and when we went into Bosnia, Haiti, Somalia, there were no such protests. When Clinton was in office there were none of these protests. So it’s obvious who the protesters are and what their purpose is.”

“The news is full of irony. The people who will not acknowledge that Saddam Hussein has weapons of mass destruction are scared to death he’s going to use them on our troops if we go in and attack.”

“I’m getting a little fed up with all this talk about how we Americans need to be concerned about what France and Germany think of us. It ought to be the other way around, and I think there’s beginning to be some shift.”

“All this diplomatic stuff is not a smoke screen, but it’s not the final determinant. When the military says they’re ready is when this is going to happen, and happen it will.”

“I do not know of a president who has been so outspoken against his successor or his country than Bill Clinton.”

“When it comes to these anti-war people they just can’t bring themselves to be pro-America because in their minds it means they hate other nations.”

THE LEFT VERSUS IRAQI DEMOCRACY

British lefty, Nick Cohen, assails the anti-war movement’s collaboration with oppression and terror:

The Iraqis must now accept that they will have to fight for democracy without the support of the British Left. Disgraceful though our failure to hear them has been, I can’t help thinking that they’ll be better off without us.

Read the whole thing – about Harold Pinter’s hypocrisy over Kurdish autonomy and democracy, of the way in which European socialists, gripped by anti-Americanism, now back a genocidal dictator against the democratic aspirations of his own people. I think yesterday’s massive marches represent something deeply, deeply corrupt in the soul of the left: a form of Western self-loathing that, unless it is resisted, will lead not just to tyranny for more people in the Middle East, but for the slow erosion of Western freedom itself in the face of terror. The only response is resistance. Not from the governments in Washington and London; but from the rest of us. The lies must be challenged day by day, hour by hour. The self-hatred must be countered with calm recitation of the West’s proud history; the excuses for tyranny opposed by a growing demand that the Arab world not be tool in the Western left’s attempt to destroy Western freedom, but seen as a part of humanity that deserves the freedom that the rest of us enjoy. No justice. No peace. As the left used to say

Washington Ignores Protests

Beautiful news if I’ve ever heard…..

From the Financial Times

But US officials on Sunday dismissed the growing popular opposition, insisting that the administration of President George W.Bush would continue to prepare for war with Iraq in the coming weeks.

(Note: 70% of Americans support War against Saddam)

Condoleezza Rice, the president’s national security adviser, said the demonstrations would not alter US determination to confront Saddam Hussein and help the Iraqi people, either with broad international support or with a narrower “coalition of the willing”.

She acknowledged the right of the protesters to oppose US plans, but said on Fox News: “They’re not saying what they think in Baghdad, because that’s a regime that cuts people’s tongues out if they say what they think.”

John McCain, the Republican senator, called the protesters “unwise and foolish,” equating them with what he said were similarly wrong-headed protests in the 1980s against the deployment of US nuclear missiles to Europe.

Viva Roma!

Looks like they’ve got their heads on straight in Italia:

Mayor of Rome cancels meeting with Iraqi Deputy PM Aziz after Aziz snubs Israeli journalist at press conference

Cheers to the Mayor of Rome: Mayor Walter Veltroni for having common sense!

I’m writing to inform you that I find myself obliged to cancel our meeting,” Veltroni wrote, according to a copy of the letter sent to Reuters.

“The reason is because of your refusal to answer a question posed to you by an Israeli journalist at a news conference held at the Foreign Press Association (on Friday),” it continued.

“Rome, Mr deputy prime minister, has always had absolute respect for dialogue and the civil exchange of ideas, not to mention, obviously, freedom of opinion and free access to information,” the center-left mayor wrote.

“I cannot accept that a public figure like yourself, the representative of another country, can set a veto and discriminate against someone, denying them the right to express themselves, no matter what position they may represent.”

More Protest Idiocy

From LGF:

Peace in Our Time

In September 1938, British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain returned from the Munich Conference after throwing Czechoslovakia to the ravening Nazi wolves, and gave a speech that lives in infamy as a symbol of craven appeasement: Peace in Our Time.

“We, the German Fuehrer and Chancellor, and the British Prime Minister, have had a further meeting today and are agreed in recognizing that the question of Anglo-German relations is of the first importance for two countries and for Europe.

“We regard the agreement signed last night and the Anglo-German Naval Agreement as symbolic of the desire of our two peoples never to go to war with one another again.

“We are resolved that the method of consultation shall be the method adopted to deal with any other questions that may concern our two countries, and we are determined to continue our efforts to remove possible sources of difference, and thus to contribute to assure the peace of Europe.”

Chamberlain read this statement to a cheering crowd in front of 10 Downing St. and said; “My good friends this is the second time in our history that there has come back from Germany to Downing Street peace with honor. I believe it is peace in our time.”
Having learned nothing from history—indeed, having learned no history at all—the fools above rush gleefully into the arms of dictators who promise peace.

Why I dislike Amnesty International

Why do I dislike AI? Because they’re very anti-Israel

As this story from Israpundit shows:

If it were up to Amnesty they would yank Sharon out of his bathroom and send him to the gallows. What turds.

LONDON – Amnesty International expressed disappointment Thursday at a Belgian court ruling that said Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon cannot face trial for war crimes until he leaves office.

Belgium has taken a lead role in the fight against impunity to ensure an effective system of international justice, said Amnesty’s[sic] assistant legal advisor, Jonathan O’Donohue.

On the other hand we regret that the court held that immunity exists for heads of state, he told AFP, saying that Amnesty had found no such justification in international law to cover the most serious crimes.

Belgiums[sic] Cour de cassation ruled Wednesday that Israels Prime Minister Sharon could be tried for war crimes under the countrys universal competence law, but only after he leaves office.[[more]
