It’s (Belated) Justice Time!
I know I usually blog about this on tuesdays, but due to the hectic schedule I’ve had in recent days, I’m going to present a truncated version of my review of events on campus…delivered on “Brandeis-time”
Arson in North Quad escalates –who the hell is responsible for this? Whomever you are, you should turn yourself in ASAP! Now the new rule is no flyers/posters on dorm doors, bulletin boards, hallways, etc.
UJ rules in Lober case–I normally omit student gov’t stuff, but I mention this case for 1 reason. There were 4-counts in the case, and the majority opinion was written in 3 pages. The lone dissenter, wrote a 46 page dissent. I kid you not. (One of my suitemates is an associate justice and she told us). See the editorial on this case a bit further down.
World Bank head to bid grads adeiu–More on the people who are speaking/being honored. I notice that the author of this article seemed to emphasize the anti-Bush traits of a few honorees. hmm…(it’s likely gonna be boring no matter what).
The Moody Mille–I wish I could’ve gone on the Pub Crawl, but I had class the next morning. Oh well.
Renowned Mideast prof. addresses ‘New Anti-Semitism’ –On Bernard Lewis’ talk, not a great article.
Forum ——- EDITORIAL: Union Judiciary inconsistent –They hit the nail on the head. 46 pages, my goodness!
LETTER TO THE EDITOR: “Conservative Coming Out Week” disrespected –This girl is now officially the coolest person!
“Features” ———– Stitch ‘n Bitch–Knitting seems to be a new trend. Who knew?
These next two stories must’ve been run with the knowledge that Horowitz was coming to campus. It’s too ironic otherwise:
40 years of Gordie–(Insert gagging noises and excessive profanity on my part). Gordie and I are not friends…let’s put it at that.
Grenada-born ambassador leads the class –To paraphrase what David Horowitz said about this prof–she was the embassador to the OAS (and other places) of a communist gov’t in Grenada, whose “cabinet” called themselves the ‘politburo’. She served under the regime that served until 1983 when infighting erupted amongst the socialist/communists…and well, then the US under Ronald Reagan sent troops in and the rest is history. (Horowitz claims she’s still a marxost….I can’t vouch for that. But based on what my friend who took her class has said, I wouldn’t exclude the possibility. Horowitz hates her with a passion).
That’s all for this week, I know, it’s shorter than usual, but it was a smaller issue. The “April Fools” content though was quite entertaining.
What did they do for April Fools? One year they ran an all-male swimsuit issue, hilarious.

Oh. they just made some spoof articles. Like the formal construction of the Brandeis Bubble. The observation of phallic statues…etc.

When I was at Brandeis, it was a wrap-around of the main issue, so when you picked it up, you thought that WAS the issue. One year the main head was “Fraternities recognized” or something like that. Another year, Streisand had refused her degree (a play on Jeanne Kirkpatrick refusing it the year before). Totally believable stuff. (I was there when this sorority girl saw the frat thing and got all excited.) Not buried within the issue as an obvious joke. Ahhh … the good old days of the Justice. You should try and find these issues, Josh.

They did that again this year, and have done it the past few years. This year wasn’t as believeable as ones past. The issues are always great. I’m sure that there are old copies of the paper, but that would require me to make an appt at the Univ. archives and such. I’m too lazy to do that these days.

The Moody St. pub crawl article is, as usual, deserving of a good fisking. Or fisting:
>At Dos Amigos, the introduction of a flock of Brandeis students made for an interesting dynamic with the bars’ regular patrons. While for many Brandeisans it was a unique opportunity to hobnob with the locals, some female students did not seem to respond favorably to being hit on.
Why? it’s the only time that will ever happen, they might as well enjoy the positive attention.
>The Brandeis police report, which was released on Sunday, said that Waltham Police would arrest students for “all alcohol violations.” But according Callahan, everything went as well as planned. Detective Tim King of the Waltham Police also did not hear of any serious complaints about the crawl.
“There were no real reports,” Callahan said.
I am shocked - shocked! - to find that there was not a single ‘deis student arrested for an alcohol-related offense!

btw, “class the next morning” should never - NEVER - preclude a man from going out drinking the night before. That might not be the way they do it at ‘deis, but remember, the ‘deis way is the opposite of the real world.

Well, my “class the next day” excuse is b/c I’ve got 1 class on friday where I”m the only student in it. So missing it/being hung over isn’t really an option.
Brandeis students, not being arrested? No, never!
