Moderation or Conservatism?

Much has been said about the line-up of “Moderate” Republicans who spoke at the RNC this year specifically: Rudy, McCain, Ahnold
(Miller doesn’t count since he’s still a Dem)

Now each of the three holds some conservative views, while holding liberal posions as well (more on social issues).

However, and here’s something I would’ve never really thought about, did any of these three really touch on the social issues during the speech? Rather what did they address?

McCain–strong defense; Ahnold–the “American Dream”, economic risk-taking, anti-communism, liberty; Rudy–strong defense, strong on crime, the WoT.

So what did all these speeches have in common?

Well, Rush Limbaugh argues that the speeches all three have given have one common trait: Unbashed Conservatism

What about this theory? Rush does make a very good point–and this sort of plays into the much hyped “big tent” theory. That the real core values of Conservatism can be shared while disagreement over other topics can still exist.

Thoughts?

Miller v. Matthews

Apparently, Zell Miller snapped at Chris Matthews this evening…

I’m thinking a Miller v. Matthews fight–and what would the chances be that Michelle Malkin tries to make it into a tag-team match?
(But who’d be alongside matthews?)

Zell is burning down the barn!

Holy Shit!
Listen to Zell Miller go!
Ann Coulter must be going gaga!

Anyone else catch the Israel reference?
(the line was something like “he [Kerry] opposed the Patriot missiles which shot down Scud Missiles over Israel”)

Holy cow! He’s bringing up the ’71 testimony!

And I thought Rudy was tough…..egads!

Update: Wow! Just Wow! Spitballs! Are they to be supplied by France and/or the UN? :-P

Cheney has an extremely, extremely tough act to follow.

Update 2: How’s this for a dream ticket: Miller-Giulliani
(you decide who is on top/bottom)

Philly Considers Wireless Internet for All!

Now I think that’s just cool (in the techno-nerdy geek sort of way)—anyone else with me?

Ikea Mobs!

Filed under: Middle East — Jaws @ 7:48 pm

I went to Ikea this past Sunday to return some items, and then to hopefully purchase some furnishings for my room (unfortunately, the store was out of what I was looking for–too bad).

However, Ikea was mobbed! There were like 40 numbers before mine being called in the return/exchange desk line. New York customer service is also very different from what we think of it in Ohio. But less I digress…

Then in the store, the place was packed! There were locals and then there were many foreign students with their families shopping for dorm furninture–and for some reason they also let the Israelis into the store! (If you’ve ever seen Israelis shop, you know what I mean!)

But the mobs I saw at Ikea paled in comparison to what happened today in Saudi Arabia at Ikea:

Egads!

Bleg: Mac help

Filed under: General — Jaws @ 11:50 am

At school I’ve been given a mac to use in my office…
Small problem, it’s been a few years since I’ve used a mac, and well, things have changed (e.g. OS X was unveiled).

Are there any Mac users out there who can help me out with suggestions of what programs I should be using?
Specifically for: a web browser, email client and is it better to use AIM or iChat?

Any other advice is appreciated as well!

This should be a crime

It’s morning….I’m in my office at school….
There’s a cart downstairs in the lobby of the building that sells coffee….it’s supposed to open at 8:30am.
It’s 9:30AM and the cart isn’t open.
There’s no coffee!
I don’t have time to walk across campus now to get a cup before class.
This should be a criminal offense! The Life Sciences building needs its morning coffee! How else are we to function?

In other news, so how about the worst shut out in AL and Yankees history, 22-0?
I watched the “encore” of the game last night on YES—-oh, how beautiful a sight it was.
