Numbskull of the Month

And the award goes to:

Former Patrol Lt. Craig Seitz, who headed [OH Gov Bob] Taft’s security detail until Friday, when he was busted down to trooper.

What was his award-defining achievement?

As the Plain Dealer’s headline reads:
After Cinnamon’s calls, Gov. Taft’s top guard is toast

Yes, the former Lt. gave his work number to a stripper, who proceeded to call him at work and leave a message under her stage name.

Looks like the Governor has good taste in personel. I wonder if this guy also accompanied Taft on golf outings?

Senator Painted As Inquisitor In Roberts Fight

Now how many questions did Schumer (wasn’t it ~65) ask Roberts on that paper he submitted to him?

Why is this even an issue anyway?

Robertson and Chavez

Filed under: Moonbats and Wingnuts — Jaws @ 9:09 am

So Pat Robertson opens his mouth and out comes something stupid….

And this is really news?
(Well I guess it does beat out continuing non-stop coverage of Aruba…)

But who really cares what Robertson says? He’s one of the people for whom the term Idiotarian was coined. Chavez isn’t a delightful individual either.

An aside: How did Robertson and/or Fallwell fail to make Bernard Goldberg’s list of : 100 People who are screwing up America?

How old is he really?

Julio Franco turns 47 today

Is he really only 47? I remember being a little kid and collecting his baseball card from when he played on the Cleveland Indians (how long ago was that?)

celebrity Eyes

Went to the eye doctors office this morning for participation in the clinical research study.

They treated my eyes like they’re celebrities.

Besides the standard vision check, they used all these cool computers and machines to do things like take a topography of my corneas (yes, I had a bad topography especially compared to my sister who is serving as a “control” in the study).

Then at one point they have this camera type thing, and you sit there and they take photographs of your eyes. It’s like eye paparrazi. That was definitely the strangest part of the experience.
(I didn’t get to see the pictures though. They are digital, so I wonder if they’d email me copies?)

Faulty Genetics

Normally a child isn’t supposed to (nor are they really allowed) to blame their parents for….welll..um….anything!

Well, there’s one exception to that general rule…and that’s blaming mom and/or dad for faulty genetics.

Tomorrow morning the sister and I are heading down to the eye doctor to participate in a multigenerational study for keratoconus (link to Wikipedia entry).

You see, mom has the condition as do I, hence my blaming her for passing it along to me. The condition makes me more prone to scratching my cornea–which I may have complained about a few times over the course of this blog’s history. Needless to say, both mom and I agree that scratching the cornea is anything but plesant.
Interestingly, the sister does not have the condition (at least not yet) so the researchers are trying to figure out exactly the genetic linkage of the disorder.

So bright and early tomorrow I get to receive a full eye-exam (with all the bells and whistles) and then they get to take my blood. And the sister gets to go through the same thing too. Fun way to spend a morning, no?

And yes, I still blame mom for these genes

The last hoorah?

I went to go warm a heating pad for the Mother this morning and I go to the microwave, which is older than I am (the microwave is 25 years old–seriously it is)

And lo and behold the power on the microwave is out…has the microwave suddenly given its last nuking? It’s traveled through 4 cities (in 3 states) and 25 years….

Wow….

All the things that I learned from the microwave too…like how to cook anything in it, especially how eggs are not to be made on the stove but rather in the microwave.

School Days…

Filed under: General — Jaws @ 8:35 am

Wow…the Brother goes back to school starting tomorrow!
Usually the local district doesn’t start up until a week from now, but I guess there’s been some change…

Since he’s going back, it looks like I know what’s in store for today…

Update: Little did I know that his laptop for school is infected with a Trojan, has out of date and expired Anti-virus software.
Looks like a job for the resident Computer geek/Older Brother (I have multiple roles around here)

Memo to Saddam

Filed under: Middle East — Jaws @ 8:23 am

Uh, the whole idea of “Pan-Arabism” (a.k.a “Nassirism”) is, uh, um DEAD

Imprisoned former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein wrote in a letter published Sunday that he is prepared to sacrifice himself for the Arab cause, and called on other Arabs to follow his example.

“In our glorious nation, my soul, and what I have been born on, is to be sacrificed to it,” the letter said, in what the context suggested was an apparent reference to all Arabs.

You may want to take note of that Saddam

What would you do?

Filed under: Random Musings — Jaws @ 10:54 pm

So I’m home this evening watching over The Siblings.

It’s about 10:15pm-ish and all of the sudden, the doorbell rings.
My hands are full of laundry (yes, I do indeed do laundry) but I’m in no rush to go answer the door.

I figure that it’s 10:15pm at night–who the heck is at the door? No one called to say that they’d be coming over to the house, so I decide to play it cautious and ignore the door. Even though I live in a very safe suburb/area, it’s still late out and I don’t know who is there.

The Sister complained that I didn’t answer the door (why she didn’t answer it is a mystery in and of itself), but she said that I should’ve answered the door.

What would you have done in this situation?

[And because I know someone is going to ask: no, there's no firearm in the house nor is anyone in the house have a LTC].

Recent Reads–Part I

Filed under: Reviews — Jaws @ 7:00 pm

Some of the books I’ve read recently–and a short review of them

Liars and Thieves by Steven Coonts–Made for good beach reading. Some of it ironically seemed to dovetail with the whole “Plamegate”/Rove thing, as I was reading it when the former was big in the news. It’s another good Jake Grafton story.

Assasin by Ted Bell–fantastic book. Somewhat Tom Clancy like, but without all of the details about military items. The book was a hard-core page turner. I look forward to Bell’s next book.

Hawke by Ted Bell–I’d suggest reading this one before reading Assasin should you get the chance, as the latter refers to something described in this book. It was also a good read, but I liked Assasin better

Atomic Iran: How the Terrorist Regime Bought the Bomb and American Politicians by Jerome R. Corsi–No, I didn’t realize that this book was authored by the guy who wrote “Unfit for Command” (which for the record I’ve never read) when I took it off the shelf at the library. This book wasn’t worth reading–unless you want to read a lot of pointless partisan mudslinging. I put it away after about 2 chapters….wasn’t worth the time.

More book reviews coming soon

Celebrating

Filed under: Personal — Jaws @ 4:42 pm

Sorry posts have been so light here the past couple of days. But between my traveling to NYC this week for an interview, and duties here at home, I”ve been quite tied up.

Not to mention that it’s been a very slow news cycle, especially if you remove Cindy Shehan from it. And the weather has been georgeous here and I”ve been outside a lot.

On that note, I’d like to start blogging more, and pick the pace back up.

However, currently, since I’ve just been offered a job in NYC…I’m celebrating with the family.
(Plus I’m grilling dinner tonight!)
