From yesterday’s (Sunday) comics section–Dilbert and Dogbert discuss the economics of oil
I wish political dialogue could always be that simple–as I was actually able to understand it!
For discussion: Could more comic strips like this become a more “mature” version of School House Rock?
Exactly 11 years ago, I celebrated my Bar Mitzvah, at (the Former) Congregation Beth Am in Cleveland Heights, Ohio.
With a 102 degree fever no less!
It’s hard to believe it was that long ago!
(File this under things I don’t understand in NYC)
What’s the deal with restaurants advertizing “Papaya” promeniantly on their signs?
Perhaps finisihng the Big Dig up would be a better starting point?
United Press International – NewsTrack – Boston wants new skyscraper
Corky & Lenny’s is sort of a Clevceland (or at least suburban East Side Cleveland) institution, when it comes to restaurants; especially when it comes to Kosher-style delis.
Recently, Corky and Lenny’s was found by health inspectors to have salmonela problem after 21 people went to local hospitals!
Shocking to see this happen at such a popular restaurant to say the least!
Coverage:
Sun Press: Corky & Lennys well be back
Cleveland Jewish News: Salmonella cases temporarily close Corky & Lenny’s
Then from today’s Plain Dealer: Corky & Lenny’s Deli reopens after outbreaks

Alas, as was probably to be expected, a lawsuit has already been filed against the eatery.
I think Ann Coulter has basically now managed to offend just about everyone, human and primate after her latest column:
f you don’t want to get shot by the police, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, then don’t point a toy gun at them. Or, as I believe our motto should be after 9/11: Jihad monkey talks tough; jihad monkey takes the consequences.
Comparing any monkey to that nutcase Ahmandinejad is an insult to the primates!

Something we were discussing today at work
Do you consider Columbia University to be located on the Upper West Side or is it distinctively in Morningside Heights?
Steve points out a story from the (Brandeis) Justice which reports the defacement of a Christian Club’s bulletin board.
Naturally–what was the campus response?
A Candlelight vigil.
It seems like anytime something even remotely bad happens, this is the response.
Heck, there was even a candlelight vigil held to protest bombing Afghanistan after 9/11
I wonder–will “candlelight vigiling” soon be a course at Brandeis?
David Horowitz has a new book out: The ProFessors in which he lists the 101 most “dangerous” profs in America. Or at least who he deems to be the 101…
I happened to drop into Barnes and Nobel last night to look at books on a completely unrelated topic (work related stuff) but the front table of “new books” had Horowitz’s book, so I decided to take a peek at the list.
Brandeis is represented on the list with 3 profs. The backwards and almost always incorrect (or as Curtis Sliwa would say “he couldn’t be more hopelessly wrong”) Gordie Fellman, former Sec. Labor and well now former Brandeis prof. Robert Reich and last was Dessema Williams.
Now I didn’t read the bios on the three, I really only gave the book a passing glance (anyone read it?) It doesn’t really strike me as anything new or interesting.
But of the three names, Williams’ stood out, as I remember when I had the oppertunity to meet Horowitz back in 2000, he instantly brought up her name, and her connections to a formerly corrupt dicatorship (I think it was Grenada?) but my memory fails me.
Again, anyone who had the book have anything to add?
Just curious–in light of the anger being expressed by many Ohio democrats at the ODP (and the DSSC esp. Chuckie Schumer) over Paul Hacket’s withdrawl from the OH Senate race.
I understand the anger and frustration being vented, but I’m curious about exactly what the anger stems from.
Are people upset because the “outside” (non-establishment) candidate is no longer in the race?
Was it Hackett specifically that people liked (as a candidate)?
Is a lot of the dissapointment in any way tied to what seems to be a large amount of dislike for Sherrod Brown by NEO bloggers?
Or is it all of the above?
In light of Dana Milbank on Countdown then Paul Begala on CNN
Now is it just me, or does anyone else think that the two look really tacky (gaudy?) in their hunting-safety gear with their shirts and ties.
