Fox News is apparently floating the idea of a “conservative” version of the Daily Show
Er….um….they may want to think for a while about that one. For starters, I don’t think that FNC’s main viewing demographic is the same as Comedy Central’s.
Second, Laura Ingram does a better job as a radio show host (IMHO).
Now, an idea gleamed from some Farkers–what if it were say PJ O’Rourke hosting the show? Or a team of writers lead by O’Rourke? Now that could be worth watching.
Haven’t paid too much attention to the whole “feud” between Kos and The New Republic.
Granted, I don’t never read Kos, and really could care less about him or his “causes”. I’ll admit to occasionally perusing TNR both online, and paging through the dead tree verion at B&N.
Has TNR gone over to the Right, like Kos (and moreso the Kossacks) claim?
Er…no.
Although there may be one exception to TNR being a left of center magazine, and that is the publication’s strong support of Israel (which is stronger than say compared to the Kos-wing of the left). Between Peretz, Karsh among others. It give sthe magazine a slightly neoconish tone in a way.
But all in all–Kos is wrong again
Still not feeling right, and was instructed by my superiors at work to undertake mandatory rest and relaxation this weekend (as much as it bores me to do so…)
Granted, the fact that it’s also pouring (and will continue to pour) all weekend helps me follow the orders.
Mondale: Force an option for stopping North Korea
Wow Mondale is still around? And attracting media attention?
An aside: doesn’t NK supposively have a nuclear “deterrent” in it’s arsenal?

Sorry about the lack of posts today
I’m sick–and really not feeling well.
Hoping to recooperate this weekend.
May be stress related from work I’m told (this past week sucked beyond compare).
Would zoning rules regarding fast food in neighborhoods apply to the quintesental NYC trademark street-cart vendor?
Stupid lawmaker watch–this time in NYC.
The lucky honoree today is: City Councilman Joel Rivera!
Councilman Rivera, has proposed further enlarging the Nanny State (City?) by limiting fast food places to fight fat via Zoning laws.
The assininity of this proposal is obviously self evident. What ever happened to personal responsibility again?
But lets have some fun with this proposal. In today’s Post was an article: Domino’s and Papa John’s are trying to grab a piece of the New York pizza pie.
In an effort to save the trademark of NY pizza, why not pass zoning laws to limit the number of shlocky chain restaurants (spec. pizza shops) trying to defile the good name of a NY culinary classic? That’s right–zone the number of nat’l chain pizza shops! [Granted, the free-market could eventually acomplish the same thing, but this is an exercise in beautifying a bad idea).
Three activists charged with trespassing, criminal mischief
How did they get so close to the silo? Were the perimiter guards on vacation?
What not to do:
PD Openers: Gun control group picks DeWine over Brown
The Brady Campaign to Prevent Handgun Violence today endorsed Sen. Mike DeWine for reelection. Let’s break this down: DeWine is a Republican, and quite a few Republicans abhor gun control. The Brady Campaign is a leading proponent of gun control. Yet DeWine sought its endorsement, or at least responded to the request to fill out a questionaire and explain why he thought he deserved the nod.
This, in a state where even the Democratic gubernatorial candidate brags of his support for gun rights (and is accused of being insincere and — gasp — of not even owning a gun).
What to do in OH:
RAB: Ken Blackwell Hits Target
OFCC endorsed Gubernatorial candidate Ken Blackwell was on hand Tuesday, June 20th, at the Ohio State Trapshooting Tournament at the Cardinal Center Campgrounds in Marengo. The campgrounds are the new home of the Ohio State Trapshooting Association .
And Blackwell even showed off his talents:
As the guest of Honor Blackwell fired the first shots at the campgrounds’ new trapshooting field. Blackwell went 8 for 10 from the 16 yard line, demonstrating that he doesn’t just talk about guns, he can shoot well too
Spiffy.
Drudge is a little late to the game, but he links to this story: On Tape: Rep Won’t Let Customer Quit AOL
But the CSR’s job (as annoying and frustrating as it is to the end user) is to try and pull out all the stops to keep the customer.
Case in point, this post over at the Consumerist:
AOL CSR Fired for Not Retaining
When I was tasked with cancelling someone else’s MSN service for them (an account which they’d believed to have been closed years ago)–it was a heardache. Not just to find a phone number for MSN’s CSRs, and the myriad of phone menus, but the hoops they made me jump through to have the account terminated. Not a pleasant experience.
For discussion:
When you make a buisness/work related call to an individual and get a voice-mail/answering machine and the message is delivered in two languages (e.g. Spanish and English)–and you happen to be bilingual (though your personal command of their native language is far from fluent)–what language does one use?
The case of the Stolen Sidekick appears to have come to a happy ending.
The owner was reunited with her cell/mobile device. However the person who allegedly purchased the stolen goods and/or her guardians (she’s a minor) is apparently planning to sue the personi who reported on the story for harassment.
Sorry, with all the documentation of the conversations that took place, I have a hard time finding much sympathy for the plaintiffs in this case.
Why is it that there are people who magically assume that you know everything–as if you had a crystal ball and could see the future?
Freaking awesome:
Researchers Say New Chip Breaks Speed Record
Researchers at I.B.M. and the Georgia Institute of Technology are set to announce today that they have broken the speed record for silicon-based chips with a semiconductor that operates 250 times faster than chips commonly used today.
The researchers, using a cryogenic test station, achieved the speed milestone by “freezing” the chip to 451 degrees below zero Fahrenheit, using liquid helium. That temperature, normally found only in outer space, is just nine degrees above absolute zero, or the temperature at which all movement is thought to cease.
At 500 gigahertz, the technology is 250 times faster than chips in today’s cellphones, which operate at 2 gigahertz. At room temperature, the chips operate at 350 gigahertz, far faster than other chips in commercial use today.
Anyone care to venture if this discovery will abide by Moore’s Law?

Is society experiencing a decline in common sense? Or do some of us just have the misfortune of meeting a lot of people without common sense?

How many of them are from Ohio?
Time for Ohio to join the ranks of Florida with it’s own tag?
The idiotic Mass Lawmaker of the week award goes to Sen. Jarrett Barrios (D-Somerville?) for his desire to ban marshmallow fluff!
Heresy!
Granted, I’m not crazy for Fluffernutter sandwitches (never been a big peanut butter guy)
But Fluff—oh the greatness of Fluff!
Funny this story should emerge the day after Fathers Day, as one of the things The Dad taught/raised me and my siblings on was Fluff.
Straight Fluff–spoonfulls straight from the jar. Mmm….that’s good stuff.
Fluff, slurpees and diet pepsi–three things that dad taught us that builds character.

So is pork another form of Kryptonite to Superman?
What’s Clark Kent’s Hebrew Name?

It’s a scorcher here in the City today.
Sunny and hot.
The saying of too much of a good thing is definitely applicable here–in this case it’s too much sun!
