The “costs” of free wireless

Over at Wizbang, Jay Tea has a good post up on a Boston Globe article:

Wifi Wars: Loiterers can be a drag on businesses’ bottom line

The article itself isn’t too suprising. Sure I’ve on occasion to a coffee house, laptop in tow, but I’ve always made sure that I purchase somethng and don’t stay very long. But perhaps that’s just me and my manners in action.

I’ve also been to coffee shops to meet with other people where someone has had a laptop, and used the available wireless, but at the same time, we all had purchased items, and were interacting around the computer—maintaining that coffee-house converstation enviroment.

But I don’t think people should use their local coffee shops as personal offices. That’s really taking advantage of the buisness–and it does wind up being a drain on the stores bottom line. It’s not the right thing to do. Then again, does this boil down to ones morals/ethics?
