Whither Monopoly?

Monopoly Takes A Chance On Plastic

But part of the fun of Monopoly was counting the wads of CASH you had!

In simpler terms

Filed under: General — Jaws @ 9:53 pm

Is it possible to boil down this buisness article in the NY Post to just two words?

Me thinks so.

The magic words are:

Aramark Sucks.

Need anything more be said?

Not much to say today

Filed under: General — Jaws @ 9:35 pm

Can’t think of anything novel to really say today.

Um….

er…

Figures he would say something like that

From Drudge:

Kerry on Mideast conflct: ‘If I was president, this wouldn’t have happened’…

Um, sure…magically Hizbullah would’ve just dissapeared? Kerry would have actually allowed Israel to go after the terorrists? (Would that have passed the “global test”?) What about the UN? There wouldn’t have been any ambassador as kick-ass as John Bolton in place, would there?

Yeah–um….

Krispy Kream crumbling

Filed under: General — Jaws @ 8:51 pm

The Boston Globe attmepts to dissect Krispy Kream’s failing in the Bay State (and the rest of New England).

In all–it’s not a very complex question to analyze:

First off-Boston (and NE) is Dunkin Donuts home turf. ‘Nuff said.

Second–Krispy Kreme’s coffee is nothing exciting or special. A bit overpriced at that. Again, when compared to Dunkin’ Donuts–no contest.

Third–Krispy Kreme only really has one major product–their glazed donut. You’re not going to be able to compete with just that one product, especially when Dunkin’ Donuts is offering things like breakfast sandwitches, bagels (albeit bad ones IMHO), smoothies…

Have I said enough?

Only in New York

Filed under: Jewish Stuff/Judaism,New York City — Jaws @ 8:30 pm

Only in NY* would one expect to see a question about the politics of the “Shabbos Elevator’ appear.

*okay, maybe it would appear in Miami or LA too, but I think the real-estate angle here is more NY-esque.

There goes the beer money

Dorm decor drives sales

Girls are much worse when it comes to spending on dorm decor than guys (as if it wasn’t obvious).

Pepsi and Arab Propaganda

Filed under: Middle East,Moonbats and Wingnuts — Jaws @ 7:07 pm

From this week’s Time Magazine on an Iranian call to boycott American goods:

It urged Iranians to boycott what it called “Zionist products,” including those made by Pepsi, Nestlé and Calvin Klein, and warned that profits from such products “are converted into bullets piercing the chests of Lebanese and Palestinian children.” As evidence, the voice-over intoned, “Pepsi stands for ‘pay each penny to save Israel.’”

Here’s the funny thing…Pepsi never entered the Israeli market until 1991 (source), as it had chosen to avoid the Arab League’s “boycott list”. In fact, Pepsi served the Arab market during the mid-1960s to the early 90s!

And speaking of which, Nestle also has a factory in Iran.

So back to the drawing board conspiracy mongers…

Work on the weekends….

Filed under: General — Jaws @ 2:13 pm

Yeah, I know it’s Sunday, but that means I’m stucl going uptown to get the company’s mail
(Shouldn’t it be forwarded you ask? That would make sense–but it’s a long story involving the USPS; not the company).

Then since I was planning on heading downtown today anyway, I can take a brief detour off the train, drop the mail at work and then keep going on my way.

Back later today then

Useless idiots

Every country seems to have ‘em…

YNet: Tel Aviv: Thousands rally against war

Thousands march in Tel Aviv to protest Lebanon fighting, call on soldiers to refuse taking part in war. Clashes with passersby erupt during event, activists called ‘traitors

Mind you, these “clashes” took place on a Saturday and in Tel Aviv no less. That’s to show how out of the mainstream opinion these people (many of whom were Communists) are.

And of course, they have their compatriots here in the US. From a piece in The Jewish Week (NY):

This week Brit Tzedek v’Shalom, an American Jewish peace group, urged its members to write to President Bush and members of Congress to demand “substantive diplomatic efforts to intervene immediately in order to achieve a ceasefire and the release of Israeli soldiers in the ongoing Mideast crisis.”

Religiously themed Linux?

(Via BoW-Offtopic)

It only seems as if it was inevitable, with the adaptability of Open Source Software, a group has created a Christian-themed Ubuntu distribution

Very novel.

Now just for fun….what would a Jewish-themed Linux distro contain?

–Automatic shabbos shutoff?
–Native support for Hebrew
–Your idea here

Worst Utility

Filed under: New York City — Jaws @ 9:33 pm

Okay, it’s all but official now.

NYC’s worst utility is officially: ConEd

ConEd has won this honor, narrowly beating out every NYCers second favorite utility, Time-Warner Cable/Internet service, by virtue of the Western Queens Blackout

What the heck is taking ConEd so loing to fix things? They seem to be working at a rate that makes the MTA seem efficient!

Israel’s (pending) ground offensive

A few quick thoughts on Israel’s looming anti-Hizbullah ground offensive into Lebanon.

This post at Q and O by McQ about Israel’s ground offensive in response to Ralph Peter’s op-ed today

They’re right–Israel needs a ground op. This is a lesson from the war in Afghanistan–we couldn’t just beat the Taliban from the air (think about the Tora Bora battle too). It’s the infantrymen and the “boots on the ground” that are the key.

One other thing that Q and O didn’t touhc on, from Peters’ piece was Israel’s relationship with the Media.

Peters seems to have forgotten the fact that overwhelmingly the media is not very favorable to Israel (see CAMERA and Honest Reporting).

So when Israel launches its ground offensive, just imagine how the media is going to react (hint: Think about how the media has reported on Iraq, then lower the level of quality down quite a few notches). This negative coverage will increase Int’l pressure on Israel to stop its (justified and proper) campaign–which n the end winds up hurting Israel even more strategically.

Amtrack errs (again)

This time they didn’t make the proper measurements before ordering double-decker cars.

Sadly this seems typical for Amtrak

Raining and Reading

Filed under: General — Jaws @ 2:36 pm

It’s still pouring out here today.
Finger is still sem-numb (d’oh!). It’s more of a nuisance than a pain really.

Going to try and attempt to get some reading (for pleasure) done, desipite the difficultiy) this task presents (that’s a whole’ nother story for anoter time).

Time to read!

Rain 1, Me 0

Filed under: Personal — Jaws @ 12:51 pm

Went on the weekly trip to Dunkin Donuts and D’agostino today (they’re neighbors on the avenue near work). Had to get the milk, butter, bagels, donuts, etc.

As I exit Dunkin’ Donuts, the sky just opens up, and kaboom! Thunder, and rain starts pouring down like mad.

Lucky me, I had two hands full of bags, no umbrella or jacket (can you say SOL?)

Raced back to the office (right up the street) w/ the food (the natives were getting restless) drenched to the bone.

Too make matters worse, in my mad, rain soaking dash, one of the bags (likely the one w/ the milk) pinched a nerve in one of my fingers on my dominant hand–and it’s mostly been numb all day. Hence typing hasn’t been as easy as usual. I blame it on the rain!
Blogging will be lighter than expected till feeling returns to the finger.

(and yes, the natives were very happy to get their food)

Wow…

Abstract Art as punishment?

Very creative sentencing by the judge in this case:

Paintball gunmen to splatter their own car

So having to paintball your own car then clean it–ouch!

The mandatory painting for Habitat for Humanity is a very nice touch as well.
