Conervative (Judaism) at a crossroads?

This article in Slate (One Mad Rabbi) reflecing on the current struggling and perplexing state of Conservative Judiasm (link to the USCJ)

As if the movement wasn’t already faced with enough identity issues (see the above article), this was the headline on the top of the Jewish Week in my mailbox today:
Conservative Movement Seen Ending Ban On Gays

As expected, this is a thorny issue within the movement. Combined with the movement’s convoluted decision making processes (another issue for another time) this could create some (more) friction within the movement.

Read the two articles and then put them together….what do you think?

Howard Kurtz’s column makes a good point as he talks about media-hyped studies that are trumpeted in the media, but when you actually look at them, boil down to just about nothing.

This happens in both the social sciences and the hard sciences.

A bit of speculation on the latter…do “bad” studies become newsworthy due to a lack of scientific literacy amongst the general publics

Do they even have taxis out there?

Stupid, foot in mouth statement of the day award goes to Sen. Conrad Burns (R-MT).

This naturally begs the question: do they even have cabs out in Montana?
