Voter ID–An undue burden?

Filed under: Politics — Jaws @ 11:35 pm

The NYT is huffing and puffing aboute the House passing a requirement for IDs in order to vote.

The NYT and the bill’s other opponsnets are claiming that getting an ID is an undue burden.
(quite a lame argument in my opinion).

Although, if one takes into consideration the experience of having to go to the DMV (or similar gov’t office), that could be considered somewhat burdensome, no?

Unpopular leadership

Ehud Olmert should perhaps have a talk with unpopular Ohio governor (thankfully outgoing shortly) Bob Taft about what’s it’s like being a very unpopular leader

JPost: Olmert’s popularity plunges

What were they thinking?

No wonder they call the place Beir Zeit on the Hudson:

Ahmadinejad Will Not Speak at Columbia

A day after the University invited the Iranian president to speak at Columbia, University officials announced late this morning that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will not come to campus.

Speechless……

This calls for further examination

Brain stimulation produces creepy shadow feeling

It would be interesting to see this tested in a few more patients (undergoing surgery that is).
[Nota Bene: the brain can't feel any touches/pain, and as such neurosurgery is often done on awake patients].

would it be possible to use TMS to replicate this effect? Or is TMS not specific enough in it’s area of impact (too broad)?

Mr. T vs. the “T-Warrior”

Filed under: General — Jaws @ 9:43 pm

Mr. T in an early first round knock out—no questions asked

ABC: Bill O’reilly even calls himself, “T-Warrior,” short for “traditional warrior.”

Yet another reason not to watch his TV “show”–which I don’t watch to begin with

one can only imagine the party that the moonbats are having because one of their favorite international leaders (Chavez) has endorsed their (moonbat) hero, Chomsky, book.

Aside: That woman behind Chavez–is she laughing?

Intersting……but there’s no way you’re gonna stop me from having Grandma’s Chicken Soup with her homemade kenendelach (preferably hard too).

They’re the best in the world!

Jewish Liberalism?

(h/t poor and stupid)

A paper published by the Jerusalem Institute for Market Studies (anyone ever heard of ‘em? Know of them?)

The paper is titled:

Jewish Economic Theory and Practice: Why the Distaste for Economic Liberalism?

In our view, the fundamental problem with the standard answer is that it is not at all true that Judaism is a set of principles that endorses income redistribution and other progressive social programs. In fact, we will try to show the exact opposite, that Judaism is a system of thought that more naturally aligns itself with the basic principles of economic liberalism.

I’m actually quite curious (from a Judaic standpoint) to see the authors argument in this case.

The whole notion of social justice and tikun olam (lit. fixing/correcting the world) though does seem to have to cary a lot of influence within the Jewish world.

Hardly a suprise

D.C. corruption eruption: FBI forced to triple fraud probe squads to keep up

Aren’t politicians all but synonamous with corruption and deceit?

Not just in America, but in Europe too?

Gridlock

Filed under: New York City,Politics — Jaws @ 9:19 pm

With the UN GA opening today, and the likes of the President and other World leaders in town, including the nutcases,

The East side was esentially shut down. The FDR–closed. That means everyone driving was jammed onto the West Side–(esp. the West Side Hwy). Riverside and Broadway–both parking lots. Or so said my coworkers.

Talk about more reasons to hate the UN!

Murphy’s IT Law?

Filed under: General — Jaws @ 9:01 pm

Why is it that the printer server decides to malfnction on the weekend? (Especially when I have a lot of printing to do?) And there’s no IT person in house?

Does murphy’s law have an IT corallary? Cause if so, I’ve just experienced it.

Sunny Sunday

Filed under: New York City,Personal — Jaws @ 1:52 pm

Wow it’s actually sunny out this week for a change. When’s the last time it’s been nice Sunday?

Lucky me of course, has work waiting in the office *sigh*.

On the way though, I’m going to visit the 92nd St Y street fair–though it’s probably the same old streetfair shtick.

Speaking of Street Fairs, the Feast of San Genaro is taking place right now too.

But alas, there are piles of work (literally) awaiting me at the office.

Fashion vs. Function

Bryant Park in Feb: Ice Rink or Fashion Show?

Me: Ice Rink

Seeming that I could really care less about fashion all together, and will most likely never wear anything that’s shown during fashion week (nor would a majority of NYCers I assume). Plus more people would make use out of the ice rink anyway.
