Rushing to judgement

Filed under: Politics — Jaws @ 9:45 pm

Was flipping channels while at the gym this morning (note to the gym: add ESPN to the lineup!)

As expected, most of the channels were covering the tragedy at Virginia Tech.

At one point I was watching the local Fox morning news show, and the anchors cut to their daily brief (only for a few minutes) “simulcast” with Curtis and Kuby.

The question of the day, was the question of politicans and how’d they’ll act in light of the tragedy.

Surprisingly, both Curtis and Kuby agreed with each other. In short, they both agreed that it was too early to rush to any conclusions on the issue of guns/gun control. As they pointed out, the weapons used in the assult were common place handguns.

Furthermore, both agreed that at the time, no one knew how the shooter got the guns (legally, illegally, etc.) so it really isn’t appropriate to rush to judgment on the subject of gun control (in all its facets) in light of the case.

What was most stunning, were the facial expressions of the Fox co-anchors at the end of the segment. They had the look of stunned disappointment–as if the response wasn’t what they expected.

Many blogs have commented on this same subject/topic today–too many to choose a link from.
