I’ll be in Ohio this weekend for Passover, and will be having Seders with Grandma….meaning all the classics.
Though some are attemping (nobely) to put a modern/trendy spin on the classic staples. Take spinach or tomato matzo balls.
Those definitely didn’t exist in the old country.
New website making it easier to sue….
As if there wern’t enough frivolous lawsuits to begin with.
Why is it that lawyers seem to like making so many facets of our lives?
That isn’t to say there aren’t good lawyers out there. There are many of ‘em, and some even get frustrated with the myriad of messes some of their colleagues have created.
Australian drought to increase price of rice
Seeming that rice isn’t really part of my diet at the moment–all this earns from me is a *shrug*
As long as this doesn’t effect the price of Quinoa.
Jeers to the fools in Albany (as always) but also to the Mayor for letting a tax that was to sunset return
As if things aren’t taxed enough in this city already, this is yet another example of the dysfunction of Albany…but this time tied in with City Hall.
Carter gets denied entry into Gaza…
Guess that means that he won’t be building any houses there…
Apparently Israel is free from any deadly Killer Rabbits (Arnavei HaMavet?) and as such, Israel did the right thing in declining to give Jimmy Carter any special security detail.
The growing backlash against Ethanol production–which is cutting down on supplies of crops like corn…
With rising food prices…one would think it may be a good time to start a low-carb diet. Although, the next major crop maybe the potato…
My recent post on using the microwave to prepare (or dare I say “cook”) food, brought a comment from someone at the “How to Cook Like Your Grandmother” blog.
This got me to thinking–grandma never cooks with her microwave. She rarely uses it for that matter, save for reheating some leftovers. Both my Grandmas are “old school” cooks, and well, their cooking speaks for itself.
It was my mother who got me more into using the microwave. Not sure why, but that’s just the way things were done. (non-chicken) Soups: microwave. Veggies–microwave. Eggs–microwave. Hot Dogs–Microwave.
(Yes, we did use the stove and oven for some things)
I’ll still admit a fondness for the microwave.
However, I’m finding it much more enjoyable to try to cook without the microwave (or to minimize it’s usage). Haven’t paid much attention to differences in taste, but the whole prep process is much more fun!
Years after her 15 minutes of fame expired, Martha Burke has reappeared in the news.
Yet, five years later, most people still don’t really care what Augusta Country Club does….since it’s a private club!
All hail the most useful appliance in the Kitchen: The Microwave!
It’s what my mom raised me on and taught me how to cook with.
(Now my new goal is to learn how to cook more on the stove)
Red-Sox Jersey buried under the new Yankee Stadium
This man, whomever he is, deserves to throw out the first pitch at Fenway Park sometime in the near future. That is in addition, to the fact that the man will never have to pay for a beer in Boston for the rest of his life.
Even more amusing is the fact that the construction worker is a Bronx native.
Baseball seems to be the one sport most closely tied with superstitions. Ones that instantly come to mind include, the Curse of The Bambino, The Cubs and the billy goat, Curse of Rocky Colavito
Heck, even in Japan, there are curses surrouding baseball: The Curse of the Colonel”

Attended the seminar today on “Organization and Time Management”.
Got there all bright and early at 8:30AM, the thing started at 9, and was thankfully over by 3:30pm.
The presenter was very, very charismatic and knowledgeable. He’s good at what he does. Perhaps a bit pushy selling books to go along with the seminar, but thats part of his job.
Most of what he said wasn’t new to me. It’s a lot of things I’d been told before. A long day to say the least, especially knowing how I do in lectures. The take home message to me was that I’ve got to put what I know into action.
Speaking of the presenter, it was his first time really in NYC (he discounted a previous trip to Lower Manhattan a few years back). The seminar took place right off of Herald Square (that’s 34th St) During the lunch break, he bought a $5 street watch (just to brag that he did). Also talked about going down to 28th -25th and Broadway to try and get a deal on a Yankees jersey for his son.
Unfortunately for me, I’m being sent to a seminar tomorrow by my company. Something silly like “Time management and organization”.
Seeming that I always have my work done early, and can keep things pretty organized, I don’t see the purpose in my attending.
Eh, if anything, I’ll get a good day’s nap out of it.
Salmon at $40/lb !?!?!?!?
Say it ain’t so! Then again, salmon was on my dinner menu for this evening–but $40!?!?
The use of performance enhancing drugs is not just limited to basebal and other athletic endevors.
Members of the NYPD are now going to be screened for steroids
And in the halls/labs of academia, more scientists are using performance enhancing drugs
Where will it end?
With congestion pricing effectively dead, the State Legislature is considering levying a new “millionaire’s tax”–the revenue of which would go to the MTA.
Problem is can Albany keep its hands off extra revenue?
They’d need to bring back out the proverbial “Lockbox” if anything, and put the funds in there. Otherwise….
A list of 10 of the most hated people on the Web
Depressingly enough, after reading the descriptionjs, I realized I knew about 7 of them.
Princess Diana was killed by a combination of a drunk driver and paparazzi
All this is a result of 3 months of testimony, 270 witnesses and a bill of £10 million
Kraft has a new product out. A cream-cheese stuffed “bagel” that bears a resemblance to a twinkie.
The only thing that could possibly make this product any worse, would be if it’s ingredient list mirrored that of a Twinkie (should that even be possible).
Heston actor passed away yesterday at age 84.
Whenever I hear the name “Heston” the first thing that comes to mind is “THe Ten Commandments”. Ben-Hur comes to mind a bit later after that.
And with Passover in less than 2 weeks, that means the Ten Commandments will soon be on TV again.
