Rough Day

Filed under: Personal — Jaws @ 10:35 pm

Didn’t have a good training session this morning in the gym. My hams wern’t up to it or so it seemed. Plus my grip is totally AWOL (or the ned bars in the gym are just overly slick).

That was the easy part of the day. Work was just chaotic. My head is still spinning. Let’s leave it at that.

Top Chef: Restaurant Wars

Filed under: General — Jaws @ 10:42 pm

The Sister and I have both expressed some level of dissapointment with this year’s Top Chef contestants. THey don’t seem to bring to the table the same talent and creativity as past seasons have.

Tonight is the big Restaurant Wars episode. Here’s hoping that the chefs do ultimately stand and deliver.

Two days ago, the NY Post reported that Caroline Kennedy was going to be the next Senator from NY

This evening, we find out, from the Post no less, that Caroline Kennedy has withdrawn her name from the running.

Only in the Post…..

Bodega finder

Filed under: New York City — Jaws @ 10:05 pm

One great thing about NYC is the Bodega. No matter the hour of day, one is able to get an assortment of random foodstuffs, and who knows what else.

Someone with perhaps too much time on their hands, has set out to map all the City’s Bodegas

Looks like a possibly useful resource….

Attack of the Birchers

Filed under: Wierd Side — Jaws @ 10:38 pm

(preface: this posting has no relation to today’s inauguration or any other political event; rather it is just a retelling of a work related story).

Monday morning, I found an envelope under my keyboard. One of the technicians who worked (in our sleep lab) over the weekend had apparently left me something.

On the envelope was written:

I found these when I went to go get some (health related) educational brochures for a patient. These probably didn’t belong on the rack”

Curious as to what the tech was referring to, I opened the envelope to find pamplets titled “Put America First”, and I flipped the pamphlet over to find out it was from the John Birch Society!
(No, I’m not going to even dignify the Birchers with a link to their site).

I took the pamplets to my boss, and just shook my head and handed them to her. She made a face, and then put the pamplets where they belong…in the garbage can. (For discussion: would the shredder have been a better choice?)

What really suprised me was not only that the Birchers are still around, but that there are some in NYC. Granted, come to think of it, there is a bit of everything in this city… Furthermore, the fact that they’d stoop to the level of placing their propoganda in a health-care providers office? (oh wait, these are the Birchers we’re talking about…nevermind)

Gym Notes

Finally used the 100lb dbs today for some shrugs (no straps either). Too bad that the heaviest dbs that the gym has are 100 lbs, but I’ll figure out a work-around.

Still having some problems with my ROM on the L side. Shoulder/deltoid area is feeling better, but I just can’t get the desired ROM and that side, which would help me with my pressing lifts.

Tomorrow is a GPP/accessory day

Inaguration Day Post

Filed under: Politics — Jaws @ 8:44 pm

Since I was busy at work today, no I didn’t watch the inaguration. Yes, I’ve read the speeches and heard all the articles.

How soon till I get my magical pony from the government?
(Just kidding)

Update: That was a rather dull episode. Mostly a bunch of plot development. Where was the action?

New Squat PR!

Finally made it up to 3 wheels today!
(that’s 315lbs)–totally raw

I’d wanted to hit this in 2008i, but some injuries prevented me from doing so. Now to work up to some more PRs. Perhpas even make it into the 900 lb club?

Quick Review: Slumdog Millionaire

(Just saw it): Excellent film all around. Great storyline, great acting, nicely interwoven themes and of course (the obligatory) nice take home message.

Well worthy of the praise it has (and continues) to recieve.

Literary Artists and Reality

Filed under: Israel,Terrorism/War on Terror — Jaws @ 4:59 pm

THough they are excellent Hebrew literary wordsmiths, the likes of whom include Amos Oz, David Grossman, A.B. Yehoshua, and Meir Shalev–they are often dead wrong when it comes to security and politics.

I like their literary works a lot…but their politics couldn’t be more hopelessly wrong.

Needless to say, work was all abuzz when we heard about the crash landing that took place on the Hudson this afternoon.

Stupid birds! Shouldn’t you have already migrated south for the winter?

Hace Frio

Filed under: General — Jaws @ 10:11 pm

It’s going to get very, very cold out tomorrow.. Personally, I’m not a huge fan of super cold weather–as m body doen’t take well to it.

Anyone know of a good hat or ear warmer? Most of the ones I’ve previously tried haven’t kept me too warm.

One of today’s subjects du jour amongst the girls was an indepth discussion of different methods of contraception.

This is one of those times when I automatically tune out anything I hear around me. (I’ve refined this skill to an artform).

Never actually been to the 2nd Avenue Deli (in either of it’s incarnations). Is it worth going to?
