Save the testosterone!

Filed under: Fitness — Jaws @ 8:27 pm

Uh oh…this could definitely be bad news for us males:

Credit crisis could crunch men’s testosterone: doctor

I guess this calls for lifting more heavy weights, eating and resting?

Stimulating the economy

Filed under: Personal — Jaws @ 7:22 pm

Okay, I had to do some shopping today for a relative’s wedding next Sunday.

Therefore, I have done my civic duty by stimulating the economy.

Does this move me up a few spots on the “receiving a magical pony list”?

Otherwise, I didn’t feel up to much today.

Dating Fail

Filed under: General — Jaws @ 5:28 pm

A co-worker told us about a date she had the other night.

At one point, the convesrsation between her and her date turned to the Rhianna -Chris Brown incident

So the girl (my coworker) asked the date, “do you condone a man hitting a woman”

Her date, basically said “yes”

At that point the date was over, and she got her food to go and just walked out and away

Mystery Stimulus Bill

Filed under: Politics — Jaws @ 10:44 pm

Really now, how many Congresspeople and Senators themselves (not their staffers) have actually read the proposed stimulus bill?

Quotes of the day

“As the scientific community has been saying for a long time, there is no good, credible, reproducible research that supports the hypothesis that MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) vaccine causes autism,”

“Instead of spending resources investigating ideas that are hypothetical and have no proven value, we need to invest our time and resources into projects that will better determine the reasons for autism and the interventions that are best needed,”

Both quotes are from the same individual and are from a major media source. However, for privacy reasons, the name of the quotee is not directly linked here.

No link between vaccines and Autism

The special magistrates of the VICP ruled against the plantiffs in the 3 omnibus test cases today.

The (long overdue?) ruling basically says that the plaintiffs were not able to prove their theory had enough credibility and scientific fact (which IMHO it doesn’t)

I’m wokring my way through reading the ruling itself

Social night

Let the wheeling and dealing begin

No…this has nothing to do with the “Stimulus” plan.

Rather, it’s the jockeying that’s about to start over in Israel over forming a coalition government. (Assuming it hasn’t already started).

As of right now, Kadima has 29 seats and Likud has 27 (out of 120). It takes 61 votes to become the Prime Minister.
However, this years election has given the right-of-center parties more seats–so at first glance, it would appear Bibi may be in the drivers seat.

That is unless, Kadima can start making some deals with cetrain parties….

Let the fun begin!

Strange Gym Conversation

True story from the gym this morning (which was my leg day).

While I was doing a warm up set of Romanian Deadlifts @ 225lbs, this guy came over to me.

[Now let me preface this by saying that when I;m in the gym, I try to get myself into a mental "zone" where I"m just focused on moving the weights. To me the gym is about working out, not conversation. Not to mention that I'm usually a reserved person]

Here’s how the conversation went:

Guy: Hey! Are you an athlete or something?

Me: No, why?
[Thinking in my head--do I look like an athlete? Granted, I"m very self-cirtical so manybe I do]

Guy: Oh, because you seem to have really nice legs

Me (perplexed): um, thanks

Guy: Everytime I’m here I always see you working your legs
[Thinking in my head: He must only be there in the AMs 1-2x per week, as that's the amount of days I work legs]

Me (fishing for a line): Yeah, well, my lower body is stronger than my upper body, so I go at it heavier (this is true).

Guy: interesting….see you around

Needless to say, when I told the girls at work this story, they god a good laugh out of it.

Jury Duty

Filed under: General — Jaws @ 11:28 pm

I’ve officially gotten my first NYC Jury Duty summons.
(*Bronx Cheer*)

It can’t be that bad…can it?

A-Rod admits it

Filed under: Sports — Jaws @ 10:00 pm

A-Rod admits, regrets use of PEDs

His excuses though are a bit weak (imho)

Oh, and there are still things you can buy at GNC that would potentially test positive for a PED test. (No, I’m not going to give out that information–these are products that shouldn’t be used/ I personally have never used them nor do I plan on ever doing so).

Wakefield Is a Fraud

Just incase you weren’t already aware, the man behind the original “MMR Scare”- Dr. Andrew Wakefield is a fraud. Now it turns out he falsified the data in his ’98 Lancet study

Surprised? No

The Press Descends on A-Rod

Filed under: Sports — Jaws @ 12:41 pm

Oh the local press is having a heyday with the news that Alex Rodriguez took AAS (Anabolic/androgenic steroids). Looking a today’s papers, there are headlines like:

“A-R*D”, “‘Roid-Riguez in hall of shame”, “A-Fraud”, “A-Rod climbs ‘Roid-master”, “A-Roid”

This is too much fun for us Yankee haters.

From the reports in the Post, it sounds like A-Rod stacked Primobolan with Testosterone. (If you want more info on that–you have to Google it in your own).

Went for a stroll

Filed under: New York City,Personal — Jaws @ 7:04 pm

Had to run an errand today for the Mom, which involved me having to brave touristy areas.

I started at 51st and Lex, and made my way over to Rockefeller Center. After not finidng what I was looking for there, I made my way over to Times Square and then decided to continue down Broadway. Wandered through Herald square, down the 30s–had lots of handbags and perfumes hawked at me) all the way to Madison Square Park. Jumped the train from 23rd St and Broadway down to Prince and Broadway, got off and continued my walk. Went down to Canal Street and did a little looking around for the specified item (no luck–but plenty of handbags on sale). Ultimately, I wound up walkng all the way down to City Hall……..

Thankfully the weather was nice out today

Happy Birthday

Filed under: General — Jaws @ 10:44 pm

Happy Birthday to the little brother…he’s 19 today!

Had a bad day

Filed under: Personal — Jaws @ 10:43 pm

Not so great day at work today and then came home to find out that the building, unannounced to us, decided to replace the last of our windows.

That’s all fine and dandy, but they first barged in this morning on The Sister (not cool) then they moved our furniture all over and didn’t put it back! Ugh!

Yeah…at least it’s the weekend

The backtracking on the (rumored?) closing of the Rose Art Museum has begun…

Jehuda with hookers and blow–nah….

Gym notes and thoughts

Filed under: Fitness — Jaws @ 11:21 pm

Today was a nausea inducing back workout.

Still having some ROM issues on the BB rows, so I lowered the weight and tried to achieve both a maximum ROM while maintaining good form. Ultimately, I thnk DB rows may wind up being my row of choice (or perhaps a HS machine). With the DBs I can really feel more of a mind-muscle connection than with a BB. Overall the mind-muscle connection is drastically improviing (which is a good thing)

People with cell phones in the gym really bother me, but maybe that’s a better rant for another time and place.

Tomorrow is chest and biceps day.

Madoff’s Victim List

Sadly, on the list of parties who lost money at the hands of Madoff’s ponzi scheme were Brandeis (despite some original reports to the contrary).

Others who lost money include Sandy Koufax, the Wilpons, many charities/non-profits and others.

The whole list is available here (in PDF)
