On the news

The Sister was interviewed this evening for the local nightly news.

Anyone happen to be watching NBC 4 this evening?

Link forthcoming…..

Homework

Filed under: Personal — Jaws @ 10:37 pm

I’ve got some “homeworK” to do for my job. It’s just keeping current with the literature and trends in the field. (Thankfully, there’s no tests or anything!) but it doesn’t hurt to be on top of things.

Topsy-turvey day

Filed under: Personal — Jaws @ 10:52 pm

Busy day at work, secondary to some major personel changes. All I needed to do was find my rhythm and it was smooth sailing from there on out. Then went downtown for a birthday party and now back home.

More tomorrow…when I have time and am not so tired.

Speaking of healthcare

Filed under: Personal — Jaws @ 9:42 pm

I had my annual physical this evening.

Pending my bloodwork…I got a bill of excellent health. My weight has just about remained the same–but I know I’ve dropped fat (my clothes fit looser) and therefore have gained muscle! (Double win!)

That was my evening–so I don’t have much else…

Wither civility?

Filed under: New York City — Jaws @ 9:40 pm

It’s sad that a public campaign needs to be launched to remind people to give up their seats on a bus/train to the elderly/disabled.

In my life, this was conventional wisdom. I still jump out of my seat (on the rate occasion I have one) and offer it to an older adult or other individual in need. But that’s just me.

Back to the bench

Confused

Perhaps it’s just me, but what exactly does the new Calvin Klein billboard do in terms of selling products?

Fashion statements that don’t make sense

Filed under: Wierd Side — Jaws @ 9:38 pm

A fashion statement sported by a few people on the streets today, which totally baffles me:

Wearing a necklace with a CD on it.
Not a medallion or a pendant–but a CD

Ideas anyone?

Bibi’s Speech

Nothing too “earth shattering” within PM Netanyahu’s speech earlier today at Bar-Ilan

I sort of like the analysis over at AoSHQ on the speech.

Bibi scores some points for showing up Obama’s omission of the real historical origins of the (modern) State of Israel.

Otherwise, there was nothing in the speech that hadn’t been heard before.

Funny to read the Palestinian responses though. The “peace process” is once again DOA (though–was it ever “alive” to begin with?)

Stupid parades

Filed under: General — Jaws @ 1:17 pm

Now the weather has gotten beautiful out…and I’d like to go to [Central Park] to take advantage.

Unfortunately, there’s another parade today…so there goes my chances of easily making it into the park.

Can’t say I didn’t predict this one

AP: Hospitals oppose Obama’s Medicare, Medicaid cuts

I think it was yesterday that I predicted such a story.
One thing from the story, that I didn’t consider though was the potential for pushback from the medical device manufacturing companies.

Bad news for the Jews

Filed under: Jewish Stuff/Judaism,New York City — Jaws @ 8:43 pm

This kind of story doesn’t make for good PR for the Jewish community:

Nothing Orthodox at The Tombs Where They Party All the Time

President Barack Obama said on Friday he was hopeful the robust debate taking place in Iran’s presidential election would advance his administration’s efforts to engage longtime U.S. rival Tehran in new ways.

“We are excited to see what appears to be a robust debate taking place in Iran,” Obama told reporters when asked about the Iranian election during an event at the White House.

“Whoever ends up winning the election in Iran, the fact there has been a robust debate hopefully will advance our ability to engage them in new ways,” he said.

If a fixed election is considered “robust debate”, then….

Unrelated: Why wasn’t Jimmy Carter over there to supervise the elections?

US cities may have to be bulldozed in order to survive

The medical community won’t like this

From Bloomberg:

- Health-care overhaul legislation being drafted by House Democrats will include $600 billion in tax increases and $400 billion in cuts to Medicare and Medicaid, Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charles Rangel said.

How is there to be a “national system” if the governemnt’s payment rates are going to decrease even further?

What provider is going to want to have a cutback in reimbursement rates?

The doctors chime in

One thing that has been missing from much of the “healthcare reform” talk is the input/opinions of the PHYSICIANS themselves.

The AMA is the first group to chime in on this….

This could be for the better

Chaos Rules The Day In Albany.

With all the Meshugas going on in the [NY State] Senate right now, perhjaps it’s to the benefit of the State’s residents.

With the politicians (of both parties) screwing around like this, that way they can’t mess up the State any more than they already have!

Rehabilitation Update

Had a great morning in the gym so to speak. Did two 5/3/2 waves Sumo Deadlifting, with a double overhand grip (no chalk/rosin).

The weight itself just flew up, which was extremely reassuring.

My main focus however was on my grip strenght, particularly in my left hand–which has been more problematic of late for me.

Yes, I somehow managed to pull 305×2, double overhand (no chalk either)! So needless to say I was quite psyched for the rest of the workout–that towards the end i just lost focus. I even got the scrapes, cuts and callouses to prove it.
