Jury Awards 60 Million Dollars to Woman in Medical Malpractice Case
PARKER WAICHMAN ALONSO LLP, one of the nation’s premier plaintiffs’ litigation firms today obtained a monumental Sixty Million ($60,000,000) Dollar verdict in a medical malpractice action awarded to a Bronx woman, against a Queens County Plastic Surgeon.
The patient went to see The Surgeon for a thigh lift procedure. As a result of the procedure, Ms. Patient sustained significant injury and deformity to the labia of her vagina which is permanent and cannot be surgically corrected.
Now, while this verdict will likely be reduced significantly upon appeal–where do they get these figures from?
Second–what the heck is a “thigh lift” procedure? And why would one undergo such a thing?
CBO Chief: Healthcare bill to increase Federal Costs
Not to mention the effects it would have on the healthcare industry as a whole.
The head of the CBO really must have a rough job–telling Congress the facts that they willfully ignore….
Now granted, this is a partisan graphic…but from the looks of it, the House Health Care Reform proposal is a rube goldberg device [PDF file]
This sounds like a promising first step: Six end simulated Mars mission isolation
Now granted, there’s still a lot of other variables to look at (e.g. the effect of a zero-g environment, exposure to cosmic radiation, etc.)
One random thing that came to mind—what would the effects of such a long space mission be on one’s circadian rhythms?
Words to the wise….
Do not attempt to bribe me. I take pride in a strong sense of ethics and morals–to do what is right. Taking a bribe goes against my religion.
Second, if you’re going to attempt to bribe me, try offering something better than “goodies” (a.k.a junk food) which I don’t consume at all!
For those two reasons, the person who attempted to do the aforementioned wins an epic fail.
/That is all
Had a decent workout in the gym. Despite difficulty with my grip (will my callous re-form itself already), I managed to pull 335×1 (sumo style), which is a post-injury PR–and a sumo DL pr!
I did however take a nasty bruise to the shin upon lowering the weight on a rep. Maybe a bruise if anything will be the end result.
Work was it’s usual Monday-ness. Meh…what’s one to do?
From Monday’s NYT: Job Losses Show Wider Racial Gap in New York
What if any significance will this story (and any subsequent press) have on the ’09 mayoral race?
A funny thing just happened this weekend. The one Dunkin’ Donuts in my zip code closed as it’s getting a makeover….
…it’s now a Tim Hortons (the one at 86th and Lex).
[The other Dunkin Donuts oni 1st, previously got siezed by the State Marshalls and has since been gutted].
Is the coffee at Tim Horton’s any better than the stuff that Dunkin was brewing?
Apparently the newest target for regulation and licensure is the *drumroll please* Yoga Industry!
I’m not quite sure why though….
Rather disappointed with the film.
True, Borat set a very high bar, and Bruno came nowhere close to meeting it.
Sure there were lots of things to laugh at, but the film seemed very disjointed. It didn’t really take the Bruno character from the “Ali G Show”–which would’ve made it much better.
Also, there was an excessive appearance of penises. Moreover, based on some of the scenese, I’m very suprised that the movie didn’t get slapped with an NC-17 rating–really!
In all–it’s really not worth the money to see it in theaters.
One of the greatest days of the year–7/11!!!!
That means–FREE SLURPEES!
Slurpees + Free = infinite win!
Going to see it today with die schwester then headed out to Brooklyn for a birthday party.
Review forthcoming…

Well perhaps that’s extending things a bit, but the headline of the article itself read:

Now, as one can learn from books like In Defense of Food, government nutritional “recommendations” are driven less by science than they are lobbying and politics.
What does this mean for children? Will the corn lobby push to keep foods with HFCS in the lunch rooms?
Oh, and that’s besides the whole “what role does DC really have to play in this” issue.

From NPR: Top 10 Reasons Why The BMI Is Bogus
While it’s easy to see how the formula quickly became adopted–it’s not necessarily a good “catch all” formula.
Okay, why are the barbells that my gym has so cheap?!?!?
I was doing some deadlifting today, and while on my first work set at 275, I noticed something was awry with my grip.
The bar was bent! With just 275 on it!?!?!
And the knurling–it was sharp!
Being the renegade that I am in the gym, I didn’t let that hold me back, and continued working my way up.
The problem was, the now-warped bar with very sharp knurling was not staying stable in my hands–it was beginning to roll. The knurling wreaked havoc on my hands–to the point that one my my callouses was nearly ripped off!! (It still hurts)
My peeve is just really why should a barbell bend so easily?
