Same old Spain
The Swiss upset European Champion Spain 1-0 today.
A huge upset.
The Swiss goal, while not beautiful was the result of hard scrappy play. In the end–the ball crossed the line in the net and that’s all that counts.
The Spaniards had some 25 shots to the Swiss’ 9. Yet the Spaniards couldn’t finish the deal.
They choked again. Same old Spain.
Can’t say this story is too surprising (though very amusing)

The game I was most looking forward to today was from the “Group of Death”: Ivory Coast-Portugal. What a let down though. Just shows how unpredictable soccer can be.
In the later game from the group, Brazil only beat North Korea 2-1! In a game that I joked with a co-worker should be like the Harlem Globetrotters vs. the Washington Generals–it went into the Half as a scoreless draw! Brazil should have scored more–and it’s shocking that NK got on the board!
Something not been feeling “right” with me as of late. Perhaps I’ve been a bit too stressed out? That’s my guess.
There’s part of me that’s thinking it may be time to go to the doctor and have some labs done–but another part of me doesn’t want to spend the time and money to do so. Perhaps the influence of work is part of my problem.
It’s an idea I’m tossing around. For the interim though I’m going to try a remedy that’s worked in the past….and just relax at that…
One of the recently arrested Wanna-be NJ Jihad suspects, Carlos Almonte is better known around the internet as part of a meme.
His claim to fame?

Epic Fail!
Ventured off the UES today, to get away from the hoopla of the PR parade, down to Herald Square and JC Penny’s. The reason? I need new pants–as my current pairs have either worn out, or have become a bit too tight in the quads (I blame the gym).
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, I hate clothes shopping. I”m a guy after all!
Alas, Penny’s didn’t have my size in stock for the style/color I was looking for–so I’m relegated to ordering online. Alas, it turns out that I may be able to get an even better price online for the same thing (plus free S+H!). As much as I dislike shopping–I love saving money.
As a result of what has to be one of the most bizarre goals in World Cup history, the US managed to draw 1-1 with England today.
Quite a shocking result–seeming that England had a much better attack going all game, plus took an early lead.
The US back line looked rather weak, save for US Keeper Tim Howard, who was extraordinary in net.
England definitely had much more talent on the pitch–but as one of the announcers pointed out, didn’t have the team chemistry of the US squad.
The game nets both teams 1 point–and a big one for the US.

Could the NYS Government be shut down next week?
Would it be worse than the dysfunctional status quo?
Up: Had a good training day in the gym this AM. Though I neared the point of vomiting both during and after my workout–I won that battle on this squat day. Hit some good numbers and was pleased with myself.
Work was a mixed bag as usual. Some stupidity in the morning, problems with EU Customs (ugh!), some new projects, paperwork–oh its all in a day.
So apparently in NYS there are still laws on the books which make adultery a criminally punishable offense
Former Governor and AG Spitzer was unavailable for comment on this story.
Okay, so it’s a Fark Headline, but I still like it:
Dozens of genetic mutations linked to autism and Jenny McCarthy discovered (LGT: Fark)
Moral of the story: It’s not vaccines (still!)
Some reason a census taker stopped by the apartment this evening. Not sure why, but being polite, I took the time to answer her questions.
Nothing too exciting I suppose. What exactly is done with the data that’s collected (besides politicians publishing all sorts of silly reports)?
Someone showed up for an appointment this morning at the office early.
By early, I mean 2.5 hours early.
Oh and happened to arrive 90 minutes before the office even opened!
Can’t wait or the World Cup to begin.
Helen Thomas has finally “retired” from the White House press corps.
I put the word “retired” in quotes–because in DC-speak fashion, it’s the diplomatic way of being pink slipped.
Now if only Pat Buchanan would get the same treatment….

THIS WEEK: Obama public-relations offensive timed to $250 rebate checks for Medicare…
Hey Mr. President (and Congress)–that’s nice an all that you’re sending our rebate checks to Medicare beneficiaries….but what about the recent rate cut that took effect for providers?
Just saying….
Went up to Costco this morning, mainly because I wanted to purchase some more raw nuts for myself. (I get a better price on a 2lb bag then I would for two 1lb bags at Trader Joe’s)>
Here’s what I learned:
–They do indeed serve samples at this Costco (much to the Little Brother’s delight)
–Some things are so tempting to purchase–but the problem is, I’d have nowhere to put it.
–There’s a new brand of Kosher beef–instead of Colorado Kosher, there’s now “Crown Glatt” beef. (Anyone ever tried Crown Glatt? It appears to be from California)
–The bakery is fully Kosher. Who would ever imagine a Kosher Bakery in El Barrio [East Harlem?]
–There’s also all sorts of other Kosher goodies there too. Just that I don’t have the fridge/freezer space for them
Although as this is Manhattan, part of the Costco experience is schlepping ones purchases home with them, usually on public transportation or via a car service which has been set up at the plaza. (I of course opted for the former).
There’s a tornado watch in effect for the five boroughs….really? I’m used to them from Cleveland, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen one here.
It’s crazy windy outside. I was planning on spending the day in the park today, but those plans were foiled by the winds. Sad thing is, I like keeping the windows in my apartment open (for ventilation) — but now the wind is unbearable. Can’t win on some things.
I don’t much care for boxing–as it’s rather dull in my opinion (in contrast to other sports)
Nonetheless, out of curiosity I turned into the Cotto-Foreman fight this evening.
From the get-go it seemed like Cotto was in total control. Foreman’s punches weren’t powerful enough (especially by comparison).
That being said–Foreman showed that he’s got a huge set of cojones deciding to continue to fight after having his leg go out from under him. At that point the fight was all but over—but he went on for another 1+ rounds!
