Census taker

Filed under: Politics — Jaws @ 9:16 pm

Some reason a census taker stopped by the apartment this evening. Not sure why, but being polite, I took the time to answer her questions.
Nothing too exciting I suppose. What exactly is done with the data that’s collected (besides politicians publishing all sorts of silly reports)?

Good bye and good riddence

Helen Thomas has finally “retired” from the White House press corps.

I put the word “retired” in quotes–because in DC-speak fashion, it’s the diplomatic way of being pink slipped.

Now if only Pat Buchanan would get the same treatment….

Worst idea since…

This has to be one of the stupidest ideas since, oh, say, the idea of “engaging” the “Hamas Moderates”.

U.S. wants to build up Hezbollah moderates

There’s so much stupidity written all over this–one doesn’t know where to start.

Major facepalm.

Can somebody please explain why fools like this keep getting re-elected to office?

NY Senator: ‘You Racist People In Here’
Sen. Kevin Parker Hurls Racism Accusations At Colleagues In Albany, Calls Republicans ‘White Supremacists’

Between the idiotic rhetoric like this and the criminals in the chamber (see Espada) no wonder this state is so backwards….

Protest day

Apparently there’s a “tea party” meeting here in NYC tomorrow — on the steps of the Main Post office.

Given my recent experience with the passport officials at the main post office, I’d be inclined to attend a protest there — especially to protest the horrible service at the post office!

Granted, I do have my libertarian small-government conservative leanings too–but I’m not the rally crowd type of person. My “tea party” if you will is going to consist of a nice cup (or two) of green tea here at The Apartment.

Honest NY Politicians?

That’s got to be the latest oxy-moron.

Now we’ve got both Governor Patterson and Rep Rangel refusing to step down from their posts amidst scandals.

Why do people vote these individuals into office? (Okay–well patterson wasn’t really elected…but still)

Can most Canadians come down to the US for surgery like that?

Probably not–they’re more likely stuck in the queue of national/provincial healthcare..

St. Vincent’s to shut down?

It looks like it’s only got 6 months or so left

Continuum Health Plans also withdrew its offer to buy out St. Vincent’s debt and take over the institution secondary to rising political pressure this past week.

A sad development to say the least–especially in NYC’s healthcare landscape.

Obama ‘hopeful’ on NYC terror trial

The White House is still hoping to bring the alleged plotters of the Sept. 11 attacks to trial in New York, President Barack Obama’s top spokesman said today, despite reservations expressed by officials there.

“We are talking with the authorities in New York,” White House spokesman Robert Gibbs told CNN.

*facepalm*

Does Obama really hate NYC this much? Why?

“New Yorkers are wussies?”

Filed under: New York City,Politics — Jaws @ 12:25 am

Apparently the people at the Center For American Progress are declaring NYCers “wussies” for not wanting the KSM trial downtown.

Besides the fact that having the circus trial downtown would result in Lower Manhattan becoming pretty much locked down (essentially shutting it down), the exorbitant costs (which NYC/NYS can’t afford) and everything else that goes along with it–I don’t think claiming that locals are “wussies” will fly.

Gitmo would make a much better trial site, no?

Why I don’t discuss politics at work…

Filed under: Politics — Jaws @ 10:34 pm

Today’s claim by a coworker (who is also a partial “9/11 truther”) was that the US gov’t is doing nothing for Haiti–and all the US is doing is sending troops.

Fortunately, one of the other girls chimed in and said the obvious: “if there’s no troops–then the ‘rebels’ and gangsters will take everything”.

This fact didn’t dissuade the original argument’s maker.

[I know when to pick and choose my battles--this was one of them to let drop]
