Browns Win (again?!?!)

A win streak? Such a foreign concept in recent years of Cleveland football!

The Browns upset the Patriots today. They managed to put up 34 points!?!?!?! (This is the same team that often struggles to get the ball into the end zone).

With the apparently weakened Jets coming to Cleveland next week, could it possibly be 3 straight?

ESPN3

Filed under: Sports — Jaws @ 8:48 pm

Dear ESPN3,

Oh how do I love you now that TWC and ESPN finally have come to terms to provide you.

I am able to watch my Buckeyes from the comfort of my own apartment, rather than trekking outdoors to some bar (in my temporarily quasi sick state). Nor must I rely on some third party web stream to watch sports.

Epic Upset

Browns defeat the Saints

Credit definitely goes to the Browns defense, for 4 INTs (two of which were returned for TDs)

The Browns offense needs work, especially in the Red Zone. Okay, McCoy is a rookie, only in his second game, but 3 FGs and only 1 TD?

Still a win is a win

Three cheers for the internet!

Now I’m able to sit at home and watch the Browns game against the Saints.

The alternative would be my going to a bar to watch the game, most likely with a paper-bag over my head as a Browns fan.
(Or I could possibly find a Browns-fan bar, should one exist)

Go Browns!

Browns Win!?!?!?!

It’s a win though….

Browns lose again…

Thankfully the game wasn’t televised (w/o satellite that is). If I ever do get to see a Browns game broadcast, I think I’m going to have to find a brown paper bag to wear while watching.

On the plus side–they did hang two TDs on the Ravens’ D…but the Browns D is just as suspect as the Giants’ D.

Beware the Sweatervest!

Filed under: Sports — Jaws @ 8:48 pm

Never did I think I’d see the day when a Tressel lead team would put up 73 points in a game

Shame on the defense though for yielding 3 TDs….boo!

All fear the sweater vest.

Note to self: I need to get myself a gray sweater vest to wear around the office. Sadly, no one would understand the awesomeness of the vest, but that’s their loss.

Brutus Beat Down?

Filed under: Sports — Jaws @ 9:53 pm

Shame on the (well now former) Ohio Bobcat mascot for going after and tackling the one, the only, Brutus the Buckeye!

That was totally uncalled for.

At least in the end the Buckeyes fought their way down the field to win the day

More from the trip home: Baseball

During the trip back to Cleveland, the Sister insisted that we head to Progressive Field to watch an Indians game. She also happened to choose the game when the Indians were giving out free (Knock-off) snuggies.

Alas, I now own a snuggie and sat thru a 1h 50m rain delay at that.

One of the wierders parts of this family excursion was our ability to purchase tickets at the box office. You see, when i was younger and growing up in Cleveland, when what was then Jacobs Field opened, the stadium was always sold out. You had to buy your tickets when they were released for sale…otherwise, forget about getting to go to a ball game. The season was sold out.

Granted, the team was extremely good then….now it’s mostly no-name players. There was a sparse crowd at the game, and the inter-inning entertainment seemed more akin to what one would’ve expected to see in the movie Major League.

Baseball is still quite a boring game if you ask me.

Go Bucks!

Filed under: Sports — Jaws @ 10:08 pm

The Buckeyes kicked off this evening and look very sharp. With the exception of a special teams miscue–everything is running like a well oiled machine.

Pryor appears to have grown and matured as a QB. The Buckeyes speed is also markedly improved.

The power of the sweater vest continues…

Thursday night college football–eh…

But when it means the start of tOSU’s season….let’s get the scarlet and gray apparel out, the sweater vest on, and it’s time for some football!

Woohoo!

Extremely Stupid Fan

Fan in LeBron’s Heat jersey draws ire

Rubbing salt into an open wound in Cleveland. Stupid “fan”….

Though the crowd has been kind to the Misguided Little Brother who has attended some of the NYY-CLE games…that is except for Slider (the mascot) who gives him grief.

Dissapointing game

Filed under: Sports — Jaws @ 9:38 pm

As I mentioned in my previous post–today’s World Cup final was quite disappointing.

The Spaniards, while effectively shutting down the Dutch machine had very little to show for it in terms of offense. The Dutch on the other hand seemed to have no real plan except for physically obstructing the Spaniards. The first half was largely forgettable.

The second half had a few sparks, but it too was largely forgettable.

The game seemed like an early round match–not a Wold Cup Final!

How many days till the 2014 cup kicks off?

Paul Picked It Again

Wow…Paul the Octopus correctly picked another game in the World Cup!

By some quick math, the odds of him having picked all of Germany’s games + the final correctly is something in the neighborhood of 0.4%!

Too wierd.

/Otherwise the FInal sucked in terms of quality for final matches IMHO. The first half was a complete snoozer. Okay, the Spanish had the pressure on the first 15 minutes or so, but then they laid off.

THe Ref was waaaaaay too Card happy too…..

Epic Letter

Cav’s Majority owner Dan GIlbert’s letter to Cleveland fans is officially an instant classic.

Not only does it channel the inner-soul of a Cleveland sports fan.

It’s written in Comic-Sans (which has sent the geek world into a tizzy)

Epic!

Last one in Cleveland…please turn out the lights

OKay, save for the Medical/Healthcare sector–stick a fork in the City. With LeBron’s departure for South Beach it’s done for.

(I guessed he’d leave)

Quite interesting to read my Facebook feed. Between unhappy Clevelanders and Ex-Clevelanders and the delusional Knicks fans who thought they were getting him.
(Best post so far is the report of a dented fridge)

Question is are riots going to ensure in NE Ohio?

Germany Tumbles

Filed under: Sports — Jaws @ 9:55 pm

One would’ve expected the country behind the war strategy of the Blitzkreig to be prepared…but nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!

Seriously though–the Germans looked extremely flat and the Spaniards extremely potent. The fact that the Germans only managed 5 shots all game is quite stunning to say the least!. Was this the same German squad that routed both England and Argentina? There was no counter attack, nor was their open play in the midfield.

Credit though to Spain for their perseverance in the game.

Blitzkreig

Filed under: Sports — Jaws @ 9:34 pm

The Germans destroyed Argentina today. The early goal totally knocked the Argentinians off balance and then the Germans went to work.

Whomever is responsible for the Germany’s strength and conditioning coaching has done an amazing job. The Germans absolutely looked fast, fit and fresh the whole 90 minutes.

The Blitzkrieg showed the vulnerability in the Argentine defense–and I”m very surprised that Messi failed to score a single tally this whole cup.

In the later game, the two penalty kicks in two minutes sequence was crazy! Although later in the game, Spain finally cracked Paraguay’s stingy defense for the deciding goal. Spain-Germany in the Semis…should be a good one.

Futbol craziness!

Filed under: Sports — Jaws @ 7:34 pm

Two great games today. I”m going to have to watch the full replays online.

The Netherlands finally showed up when it counted and knocked off Brazil! From the parts of the second half I saw, Brazil looked disoriented/discombobulated (even before going down to 10 men).

The Ghana-Uruguay game–that has to be one of the craziest game ending sequences ever in soccer. What will the (game-winning?) handball come to be known as? Just wow!

My brain also strangely missed the sound of the vuvuzella….that changed after about oh 5 seconds of hearing it.
